President Donald Trump told Iran it needs to “FULLY OPEN” the Strait of Hormuz within the next 48 hours, or the U.S. military will attack and destroy Iran’s power plants one after another.
He made this warning in a post on Truth Social at 7:44 p.m. ET on Saturday.
The president said:
If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
This threat came three weeks after U.S. and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
The war against Iran, called Operation Epic Fury, has already taken out many other top officials from Iran’s government.
The war has greatly reduced the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
The BBC reported that ship traffic dropped by 95% in March. Normally, about 138 ships pass through the strait each day, but that number has fallen to around 100 since the war began.
As a result, oil prices have gone up a lot.
On Friday, the price of a barrel of oil was $98.09, which is 47% higher than it was the day before the war started.
Trump said the war is about to end soon, and Operation Epic Fury was on his mind on Saturday.
He criticized The New York Times reporter David Sanger for saying that some war goals haven’t been met yet.
He wrote, “The United States has blown Iran off the map, and yet their lightweight analyst, David Sanger, says I haven’t met my own goals.
Yes I have, and weeks ahead of schedule!”
