Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) posted – and then quickly took down – a message on social media on Tuesday. In it, he shared details about a recent conversation with President Donald Trump, who, according to Graham, was extremely upset about the lack of support from other countries for the U.S. war effort in Iran.
He wrote, “I just talked to President Trump about our European allies not wanting to provide help to keep the Strait of Hormuz working, which is good for Europe more than America.”
Graham shared this on X, but the post was removed within minutes.
“I’ve never seen him this angry in my life.
I share that anger because of what’s at stake.”
After Trump first ordered attacks on Iran, the country promised to attack any ships supporting the U.S. and its allies as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route where 20% of the world’s oil trade goes through.
Oil prices went up sharply, causing worry inside the Trump administration and pushing Trump to ask other countries to help with the war effort.
However, those requests mostly went unanswered, and there were “few immediate promises,” according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
Trump’s anger over this was echoed by Graham, who wrote in his now-deleted post that the lack of support from European nations made him question the value of U.S. alliances.
“European allies being arrogant to say Iran having a nuclear weapon isn’t a big deal and that military action to stop the ayatollahs from getting one is America’s problem, not theirs, is really offensive,” Graham wrote.
“I’m usually a strong supporter of alliances, but right now, with all this testing, I’m starting to doubt their value.
I’m sure I’m not the only senator who feels this way.”
Even though he deleted the post, Graham later re-shared a slightly changed version about 40 minutes later.

Says he just got off the phone with Trump and that he’d “never heard him so angry in my life.”
Apparently Trump is fuming over other countries’ refusal to help get him out of the Strait of Hormuz fiasco he caused. pic.twitter.com/TaEECrVr1M
