The Pentagon asked the White House today for more than $200 billion for the Iran war supplemental, according to sources, as reported by The Washington Post’s Jeff Stein on X. Some White House aides believe Congress may not back such a large amount, which could lead to a major fight in Congress.
Senator Ruben Gallego saw the tweet and responded quickly—
“At the peak of the Iraq War, it cost about $140 billion a year,” he wrote.
“If the Pentagon is asking for $200 billion, they are planning for a long war. The answer is simply no.”
The Post says the new request would “far exceed the costs of the administration’s large airstrike campaign so far.
” It’s possible that the Trump administration, knowing how tough it will be to get approval, might ask for less than $200 billion. But even a small increase in spending on this harmful war is too much.
It’s important to note that Trump never asked Congress to declare war, as the Constitution requires.
This military action is lawless and supports Israel, serving no real American interest. Our soldiers are losing their lives, and our tax money is being wasted so a foreign country can grow stronger in the Middle East.
Strangely, Trump claimed on March 9th that “the war is very complete, pretty much.”
That was clearly a lie. The war is not over, and won’t be any time soon because Trump has no clear goal other than “drop more bombs.” This conflict is getting worse and has no end in sight.
Meanwhile, Iran has repeatedly refused attempts by the White House to restart talks because they don’t trust Trump and want to make the cost so high that the U.S. and Israel will never attack them again.
The Strait of Hormuz is blocked from Western ships, oil prices are rising sharply, and we are heading toward a recession. Now, Pete Hegseth is asking for more of our money to kill more children.
