Europe isn’t interested in getting involved in a long war. Kaja Kallas, the Vice-President of the European Commission, said, “This is not Europe’s war, but Europe’s interests are directly at stake.” She explained that while EU ministers want to increase their naval presence in the Middle East, there’s not much support for changing the rules of their mission. That means they won’t send warships through the Strait of Hormuz like Trump has asked them to.
Kallas also said, “Europe isn’t part of this war.
We didn’t start this war. And the political goals are unclear.” She added, “Nobody wants to get actively involved in this war.”
Who can blame the EU for not wanting to get involved in Trump’s messy war?
He started this illegal war on behalf of Israel without clear goals. It has turned into a complete disaster, with Iran launching missiles at American bases and the cities of EU allies.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said, “The Americans chose this path, together with the Israelis.
We did not start this war.”
One reason past U.S. presidents never attacked Iran, even when pressured to do so, was because they knew Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz, which controls 20% of the world’s oil.
Now, ships are scared to pass through the waterway, causing gas prices to go way up.
Since Trump can’t really pressure Iran anymore (they’ve turned down his secret efforts for a ceasefire because they don’t trust him), he’s now asking allies to magically force the strait open.
Even if they agreed to send warships to protect oil tankers, it wouldn’t fix the problem. The warships wouldn’t stop Iranian missiles and drones, which means the tankers wouldn’t get insurance and wouldn’t try to travel through.
Trump once said to the Financial Times, “It’s only right that those who benefit from the strait help keep things safe there.
If there’s no response or a negative one, it will be very bad for the future of NATO.”
His comments were met with a lot of resistance.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said, “NATO is a defensive alliance, not an interventionist one.
That’s why NATO has no place here at all.” He added, “I hope we treat each other with the respect the alliance deserves.”
Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said, “Don’t ask us to send our troops.”
He added that his country won’t let Trump “blackmail” them.
We support the EU for standing up to this fascist administration.
No to war!
