Donald Trump’s big appearance at Saturday’s Tennessee-Texas football showdown came with Air Force One, presidential security and one of the biggest crowds in college football.
It also came with some very audible boos.
Trump traveled to Knoxville Saturday as No. 14 Tennessee hosted No. 1 Texas at Neyland Stadium, joining more than 100,000 fans for one of the marquee games of the weekend.
Before kickoff, Air Force One performed a flyover as Trump arrived for the game.
But things got considerably more awkward once the president himself appeared on the stadium’s massive video board.
As Trump’s face was shown on the Jumbotron, boos could clearly be heard breaking out from portions of the crowd.
Video from the moment quickly began circulating online, while People reported that Trump was “loudly booed by some fans” during the appearance.
The reaction wasn’t unanimous.
The University of Tennessee’s student newspaper, The Daily Beacon, described the stadium as erupting in a mixture of cheers and boos when Trump appeared on the screen.
Trump, seated alongside Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, responded by pumping his fist toward the crowd.
That distinction matters: this wasn’t an entire stadium turning against Trump, as some viral posts quickly suggested.
But hearing clearly audible boos at all was still a striking moment given the setting.
Trump was attending a major SEC football game in Tennessee — a state he carried comfortably in the 2024 presidential election — and his appearance had been promoted for days ahead of the matchup.
The presidential visit also came with extraordinary security measures and logistical changes around Neyland Stadium.
And after all that buildup, cameras captured a reaction that wasn’t quite the universally enthusiastic welcome Trump might have hoped to receive.
Some fans cheered.
Others made their feelings considerably louder.
