In an interview with the BBC, Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, talked about how his father is still working hard despite his health issues.
Hunter said his father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in May 2025 — just a few months after leaving the White House — is experiencing “debilitating” pain.
The cancer has spread to his bones and other parts of his body, making it very hard for him to cope.
In October 2025, Joe Biden shared that he was receiving radiation and hormone therapy, and he said the treatment was going well.
But even as he continues to appear in public, Hunter said the disease is taking a big toll on his dad.
“It’s really sad to watch,” Hunter said.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further.It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
He added that the family is struggling with the situation.
“It’s really sad to watch,” he said.”The only thing I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good.”
Despite the pain, Hunter said his father keeps going, speaking out on issues he cares about.
“He’s still doing his thing,” he said.”He so believes in this country.”
So far this year, Joe Biden has taken part in at least five public events, including Rev.
Jesse Jackson’s memorial service in Chicago and a Democratic party gala in Maryland to rally voters ahead of the midterms.
Biden is also working on a memoir called “Promise Me, America,” which he plans to release after the November elections.
“‘Promise Me, America’ is about the challenges we faced as a nation.
It’s about the decisions I made and why I made them,” Biden said in a video statement announcing the book.“It’s about why I chose to run for reelection and why I chose to step aside.”
The book’s title is similar to a 2017 memoir by Biden, “Promise Me, Dad,” which was about the death of his son, Beau Biden.
