In a big, angry social media outburst, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) got upset when Hilton Hotels canceled room bookings for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis. The department acted like it was sending a desperate message, shouting “NO ROOM AT THE INN!” and blaming Hilton for a “coordinated campaign” against law enforcement. The reason? Hilton just said no to providing rooms for the agents.
According to DHS, Hilton made a big mistake by canceling the reservations after agents tried to book rooms using government emails and special rates.
But Hilton responded with a simple, clear message: “We don’t host ICE or immigration agents.” That’s all they said. No secret plan, no hidden agenda. Just a business making a choice.
But DHS didn’t stop there.
They went further by accusing Hilton of “siding with murderers and rapists,” a wild and hurtful accusation that shows how far the department has strayed from reality. To them, saying no to housing federal agents is like supporting violent crime.
Emails from DHS confirm what Hilton said.
One message said the reservation was canceled because it was connected to immigration enforcement. Another simply stated, “We are not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property.” Staff were even told to spread this message internally.
This isn’t illegal.
It’s just normal business behavior — the same free-market idea that Republicans say they support. It’s obvious that Hilton didn’t want the problems or loss of customers that could come from hosting immigration agents.
But under the leadership of Noem’s DHS, any company that doesn’t support immigration enforcement is seen as an enemy.
Corporations can say no — unless they’re saying no to the wrong people.
Hilton didn’t break any laws.
DHS didn’t lose its power. What really happened is more telling: a powerful agency used to getting what it wanted was told “no,” and it completely lost control.
For an administration that always talks about freedom, the message is clear — freedom is only acceptable when it helps them.
Please like and share to support the freedom of Hilton Hotels to choose who they will — and will not — accept as customers!
