Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said President Donald Trump was “very angry” with her because she supported releasing the Epstein files. She said Trump believed doing so would “harm people.”
Greene was interviewed by 60 Minutes, which will air on Sunday.
CBS stations around the country showed a preview of the interview on Friday night. Greene was one of only four House Republicans who signed a discharge petition asking the Trump administration to release the Department of Justice’s files on Jeffrey Epstein, a deceased child sex trafficker and former friend of Trump. The petition got enough support to force a vote. The measure passed both chambers and was reluctantly signed by Trump, who has the power to release the files without Congress’s approval, but he has refused. The Department of Justice must release the files by December 19.
In the month after Trump took office, Attorney General Pam Bondi said Epstein’s client list was “on my desk.”
However, by the summer, the Justice Department claimed there was no such list. Later, it was reported that Bondi told Trump his name appeared in the files. Last month, the House Oversight Committee released a large number of emails between Epstein and others. Epstein often mentioned Trump in vague ways. In one email, he wrote, “I know how dirty Donald is.”
Greene told Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes that she had a conversation with Trump about the files and her support for the discharge petition.
“We did talk about the Epstein files,” Greene said.
“And he was extremely angry at me that I had signed the discharge petition to release the files. I fully believe that those women deserve everything they’re asking. They’re asking for all of it to come out. They deserve it. And he was furious with me.”
“What did he say?”
Stahl asked.
“He said that it was going to hurt people,” Greene replied.
After Greene signed the discharge petition, Trump withdrew his support for her in the upcoming midterm elections.
She announced she will leave Congress in January.
