Rosie O’Donnell has delivered another blistering attack on Donald Trump, accusing the president of lacking a moral compass and urging Americans to use the upcoming midterm elections to hold his administration accountable.
With Election Day approaching on November 3, the comedian and longtime Trump critic issued an impassioned message that combined personal criticism of the president with an appeal for voters to make their voices heard.
“So, only a couple days left, America. Four days. Four days from now, we will stop the madness,” O’Donnell said in remarks circulated online.
She then turned to Trump’s recent confrontation with a Reuters reporter, an exchange in which the president lashed out at the news organization while answering a question about his campaign travel.
“Yelling at people, saying, ‘Where are you from?’ They say, ‘Reuters.’ ‘Well, that’s a fake news company.’ No, you’re a fake.”
O’Donnell’s criticism quickly became more personal.
“You’re the fakest person that’s ever been in that office! You’re a total mirage. You’re total fabrication,” she continued. “You’re totally fiction. You have no moral compass. You have no soul, apparently.”
The former View co-host, whose public feud with Trump stretches back roughly two decades, also accused him of deliberately embracing cruelty.
“You do cruelty for cruelty’s sake, and you’re a grifter. And you learn that from your family. And it’s showing,” she said.
The remarks reflect O’Donnell’s longstanding opposition to Trump, but her message was not limited to criticizing the president. She also spoke about what she believes Americans should expect from their government and one another.
“So, I’m just hoping, and I’m praying, and I’m doing all I can do just to remind America who we are, and what we’re about, and what kind of nation we want to be, and what kind of human beings.”
O’Donnell has repeatedly used her public platform to encourage political participation and challenge the Trump administration. During a recent conversation with journalist Jim Acosta, she also argued that voters have an opportunity to change the country’s direction in November.
In her latest message, she returned to that theme, urging people to vote and thanking those who had already cast their ballots.
“So, vote Tuesday. And if you already voted like I did, thank you. And this is our chance,” she said.
“We don’t hold them accountable now, we lose our opportunity to do so in the future. That’s what I firmly believe. I firmly believe.”
The midterm elections will determine control of Congress for the final two years of Trump’s current term. Democrats are campaigning on the promise of checking the administration’s power, while Republicans are seeking to defend their congressional majorities.
For O’Donnell, the election is also about the country’s character.
“And I believe in the United States. I believe in the goodness of its people. I believe we are not the worst of human behavior like he is.”
She ended with a final appeal.
“And come on, America. I’m rooting for us. I really am.”
Whether voters deliver the political change O’Donnell is hoping for will be decided at the ballot box on November 3.
