Donald Trump had a hard time staying awake as the names of people who died in the September 11 attacks were read during a touching memorial service.The 80-year-old president’s eyes kept closing for a long time, and his head moved back and forth as he sat on stage at the Pentagon, where he and his wife Melania attended the event on the 25th anniversary of the attack.
One popular post said, “Sleepy Donald Trump has decided to take a nap at the Pentagon Ceremony.” Another one said, “Utterly embarrassing.
Guy can’t even keep his eyes open at the 9/11 ceremony.”
As the names of the victims were read one after another, and a bell rang, Trump’s eyelids looked very heavy.
He also seemed sleepy as a choir sang.
Trump had a busy and tough week.
He flew to Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday to speak at his MAGA Fyre Fest convention, which didn’t draw much attention compared to a typical night of cable news.He spoke for about 106 minutes in his first speech, ending around 11 p.m.EST.The next morning, he woke up early and posted on Truth Social at 6:54 a.m.Thursday.
He gave another speech later that night to a crowd that wasn’t full, and it ended after 11 p.m.
EST.Then he flew back to Washington and arrived at the Pentagon with Melania before 9 a.m.on Friday.
Trump got attention last year at the September 11 memorial when his face looked droopy.
Even though he struggled to stay awake on Friday, Trump still gave a speech at the memorial.
He used the speech to explain his position on his conflict with Iran.
“We will never, ever forget,” Trump said.
“That’s why we fight today—we don’t have a choice.There can only be victory.We fight hard.We fight to win.”
He later said the U.S.
will “ensure the world’s No.1 sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, will never have a nuclear weapon.”
The White House said Trump wasn’t sleeping during the 9/11 event.
“President Trump was solemnly listening and remembering the victims and heroic first responders who tragically lost their lives on that fateful day.
Anyone ridiculously claiming the President was asleep is lying,” said White House spokesman Davis Ingle.
