Donald Trump’s self-centered attitude is really out of control.His sense of self-importance is so strong that he can’t feel the kind of guilt or shame that normal people would if they acted or spoke the way he does.
Take his comments at a ceremony honoring recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor at the Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas.
He was standing next to 15 living people who have won this big award.
These are people who bravely went into enemy fire, saved other soldiers, and risked their lives for their country.But Trump made the whole event about himself.Of course he did.You really thought he’d do anything different?
He said, “I’ve never said this, I told Jerry a long time ago, the thing I really want is I want for myself a Congressional Medal of Honor, and I’ve studied it, and I will give it to myself, I have no problem, but I’m not allowed to.” He went on to say, “Can you believe it?
The one thing I’m not allowed to do, I would give myself.”
It’s hard to believe how much nerve it takes for someone to say something like that.
The Medal of Honor is the highest honor the U.S.gives to soldiers for showing extreme bravery in battle.It can’t be requested, campaigned for, or given to someone by themselves.It’s meant for those who have done real heroism, not people who just want recognition.Trump, standing next to actual Medal of Honor winners who earned their medals through real battlefield action, openly said he’s upset he can’t get this honor for himself.
He then tried to act like it was a joke, but he made it clear it wasn’t.
He said, “So tonight the story will be that Donald Trump wants the Congressional Medal of Honor for himself.I’m only kidding.Actually, I’m not kidding, I would like that.I can think of no other thing.”
That wasn’t just teasing.
That was a president telling the American people, in front of real war heroes, that he genuinely wants to give himself the country’s highest award for bravery in battle.Trump never served in the military.He got five draft deferments during the Vietnam War, one because of bone spurs — and he never clearly said where they were.
This is a man who has spent years creating fancy ballrooms, renaming lakes after himself, and pushing for his name to be all over places like the Kennedy Center.
It seems like even the most important military honor, given only to people who risked their lives for the country, wasn’t safe from becoming another part of his self-made legend.
Real heroes stood quietly by him as he made their moment about his own ego.
That says everything about what this president values.One thing is certain: it isn’t real heroes, true bravery, or the country’s well-being.
