Sen.Bill Cassidy (R-LA) used made-up reasons to support confirming Todd Blanche as President Donald Trump’s attorney general, said CNN’s Jake Tapper on Friday.This isn’t the first time he’s done something like that.
Cassidy eventually ignored his earlier public doubts, which Tapper called a “real puzzler.” He gave two reasons for this.
First, Cassidy has often worried about the Justice Department being used as a political weapon.
In his speech when he announced his vote, he brought up this concern, but the explanation he gave didn’t make sense.He claimed Blanche would not be a “yes man” for Trump and would actually push back against him.

Tapper pointed out that there’s no real proof Blanche ever stood up to Trump, especially since Blanche was Trump’s personal lawyer in the Stormy Daniels case.
Tapper said, “If you believe that I have a Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge to sell you, because there is literally no evidence of Blanche ever standing up to President Trump,” adding examples like the prosecutions of Don Lemon, Lisa Cook, James Comey, and Letitia James.
Tapper also said Blanche didn’t show any independence when he delayed releasing the Epstein case files or helped cover up investigations into ICE officers who killed people in Minneapolis.
There’s another reason this is surprising, Tapper said, and it’s because “politically, he doesn’t need to vote for Blanche.
Cassidy is a dead man walking.”
Tapper noted that Cassidy is already out of a job because Trump didn’t support him and he lost his primary race.
He also mentioned that Cassidy had a similar situation last year when he was the deciding vote to confirm Robert F.Kennedy Jr.as Health and Human Services Secretary, despite his major concerns.Cassidy is a doctor, and RFK Jr.is not.That didn’t go well.
