Kentucky’s governor, Andy Beshear, a Democrat, gave Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, a final warning about being open about his health.In a letter sent on Tuesday, Beshear told McConnell to either speak up or resign.
This comes after McConnell’s office shared a new photo showing him with his wife, Elaine Chao, and a brief update.
Beshear wrote that it has been 43 days since McConnell was hospitalized and that during that time, he didn’t vote, didn’t do any official work, and only shared two photos and some statements.
He said, “I am asking you to directly talk to the people of Kentucky and show that you can still serve, or resign.”
Beshear also threatened to ask Senate leader John Thune to start the process of removing McConnell from the Senate.
He wrote, “If you don’t show you can still serve, I will ask Leader Thune to investigate your condition, report to the public, and start the process if needed.”
No one from McConnell’s office responded to a message on Tuesday.
This is the second time this month that Beshear has asked McConnell for more information.
In the first letter, dated July 8, Beshear asked McConnell to fully update Kentuckians on his health.He said, “As public officials, we promise to be clear about our ability to serve.”

In response, McConnell’s office said, “Senator McConnell is thankful for the support he’s getting while he recovers in the hospital.
He’s improving and working with his team on state and Senate matters while the Senate is on break.”
McConnell, who is 84 years old, was taken to the hospital on June 14 after he was found unconscious at home.
Even though there have been two proof-of-life photos and some Republicans who say they’ve spoken with McConnell, there’s still a lot of discussion about his health on social media.
Earlier this month, former President Donald Trump said he hasn’t spoken to McConnell and doesn’t know how he’s doing.
