Jimmy Kimmel might be taking a break from his ABC late-night show this summer, but he hasn’t stopped making jokes about politicians.
On Sunday, July 12, Kimmel posted a fake photo on Instagram.
It showed him lying in a hospital bed, and he wrote, “For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great.” The post was a joke, copying a recent image shared by Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky.
That same day, McConnell’s team sent an email to his supporters in Kentucky.
The email included a photo of McConnell sitting up in a hospital bed, with his wife, Elaine Chao, by his side.He also looked like he was holding a copy of the Sunday Washington Post.
McConnell said he had fallen and developed mild pneumonia.
His doctors said he didn’t break any bones or get a concussion. He didn’t have a heart attack, stroke, tumors, or bleeding. But he was briefly unconscious and had to go to the hospital.
He also said he was frustrated by the delay but that his doctors advised him not to return to the Senate floor just yet.
“But rest assured, I’m not taking a break from the Senate work that matters to you,” he said.
The news came after a lot of pressure on McConnell’s team to share updates about his health.
Since he was hospitalized on June 14, rumors spread that he was in a serious condition. Some even thought he had died.
In Kimmel’s fake photo, he put his own face on McConnell’s body while Chao still smiled at the camera.
Fans liked the post a lot, with many commenting on how funny it was.
One wrote, “Omg you are the best we love you, Jimmy.” Another said, “Jimmy is the BEST!So Clever and Smart.”
Others added, “Snorted laughing at this,” and “This wins the internet today!!
Thanks for the belly laugh and howling I just did.”
Kimmel announced his break on June 18, and guest hosts will be taking over his show.
Tiffany Haddish started the guest-hosting last week, and Ike Barinholtz will take over this week.Kimmel is expected to return after Labor Day.
