Stephen A., the famous ESPN commentator, says that Donald Trump’s plan to appear at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals is a very bad idea, and not just because of politics.
He explained, “It’s everything to do with him causing more confusion and adding to the mess that will already be happening at Madison Square Garden.”
Smith said the same thing would apply if the visitor were Barack Obama, George W. Bush, or Bill Clinton.
This warning comes as New York officials are getting ready for huge security efforts because of Trump’s visit to the Knicks’ first NBA Finals game at their home court in 27 years.
Fans are being told to arrive at least two hours early, there will be a strict no-bag rule, and everyone entering the arena will go through airport-style security checks.
The Secret Service is also causing the cancellation of a huge outdoor watch party that was supposed to take place outside Madison Square Garden.
Thousands of fans who usually gather to celebrate the biggest Knicks game in a generation are being kept away because of the security setup around Trump’s appearance.
Street closures, security checks, vehicle limits, and crowd-control barriers are expected all around the arena.
Officials say the event needs an extreme level of security because of Trump’s presence.
For most fans, Game 3 is about the Knicks trying to win their first championship since the days of Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, and Earl “The Pearl” Monroe.
It should be about the new stars, the energy, the atmosphere, and the special moment — along with Knicks history.
But Trump’s appearance means fans have to worry about security lines, road closures, canceled events, and whether they can even get into the building on time.
This is what Trump does, of course.
Every event ends up being about him. He follows the spotlight like an addict and always tries to take over everyone else’s moment.
Stephen A. says he only cares about the problems caused by Trump’s presence, but we know there’s more to his comments.
He clearly knows that the story of the teams playing will somehow be overshadowed by the motorcade, the security, the cameras, and the constant boos that come with Trump wherever he goes.
