“Kids, if your parents support MAGA, they support child rapists,” says another sign at the protest.
“The government is trying to silence important political speech without any clear reason—or evidence—that this speech actually puts the President’s life or safety at risk,” said U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, specifically about the “86 47” message.
“Based on what we know now, the Defendants have not shown any reason to think that the Plaintiff is not engaging in completely protected First Amendment activities,” he added. The administration has claimed that “86 47” is a call for violence, but in truth, it is just a call to impeach and remove the most criminal President in history from office.
The protest is taking place just a mile from the White House on land managed by the NPS. Federal officers asked the activists to take down their “86 45” flag, which led to the case going before a judge. Interestingly, this protest—a nonstop demonstration for weeks—is happening right outside the federal courthouse where Judge Moss works.
The protestors are taking turns to keep the demonstration going at all times, sending a strong message that they will not back down against Trump’s oppressive agenda.
They are also talking to people passing by, encouraging them to support impeachment. Ridiculously, the NPS claimed that the display was a type of “unprotected obscenity,” even though no reasonable person could honestly say that those four numbers in that order are actually obscene.
This was a clear effort by the administration to suppress political speech they don’t like. Thankfully, we still have a Constitution. Trump might dislike it and be trying hard to undermine it, but it still stands!
