A former White House communications director under President Donald Trump said the president is “calling for a nuclear strike” against Iran after Trump warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight.”
Anthony Scaramucci posted on X saying, “Wake up: he is calling for a nuclear strike.
Seek his removal immediately.” Scaramucci worked as the White House communications director for 11 days during his first term.
Scaramucci’s demand for Trump’s removal came less than an hour after a similar call from former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who urged the use of the 25th Amendment.
Greene criticized Trump’s threat to destroy an entire civilization, writing, “25TH AMENDMENT!!!
Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.”
The 25th Amendment of the Constitution deals with presidential succession, explaining who would take over if the president is unable to do their job — including if they are impeached by Congress or if the Cabinet votes to remove them.
The amendment states, “Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”
For the president to go back to work, they must send a written declaration to the Senate and House leaders saying they are able to do their job.
The amendment continues, “He shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
“If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office,” it concludes.
There has been a lot of talk recently about whether Trump’s Cabinet might use the 25th Amendment, with calls from both sides of the political spectrum for Cabinet members to take action.
However, so far, no Cabinet member has indicated they plan to invoke the 25th Amendment, even though some top U.S. officials have called Trump the most “bloodthirsty” in his administration, comparing him to a “mad dog,” especially regarding his actions in the war with Iran.
Another official said Trump is the most hawkish person in the top ranks of the American government — more so than any other members of his Cabinet.
“The president is the most bloodthirsty, like a mad dog,” the official said, downplaying rumors that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth or Secretary of State Marco Rubio are encouraging the violence.
“Those guys sound like the doves compared to the president,” the official told Axios.
