During a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, President Trump took a long break to talk about how he saved the government thousands of dollars by switching from costly $1,000 pens to cheaper Sharpies that cost just $5 each.
He said he called the head of Sharpie and asked for black pens with the company logo replaced by his name and a picture of the White House.
Trump claimed the executive was so impressed that he offered the pens for free, but Trump insisted on paying $5 each because “I want to pay you.”
He ended with a big smile: “For five dollars (could be zero!)
but for five dollars I get a much better pen than for $1,000 and I could hand them out and actually they become hot as a pistol.”
However, Sharpie’s parent company, Newell Brands, quickly denied the story.
A spokesperson said, “We don’t have any information about the conversation described. We’re proud to be a beloved brand trusted by so many globally.”
Once again, Trump used valuable time in a Cabinet meeting to tell a made-up story about his supposed smart money-saving skills, only for the company involved to deny it right after he finished.
This is the same president whose war in Iran is costing billions, raising gas prices, and putting American lives at risk, yet he keeps making up stories about how he saved money on pens.
