Cobb, who worked as White House counsel under Trump, recently gave a strong criticism of his former boss on CNN. He responded to Trump’s shocking comment celebrating Robert Mueller’s death.
“President Trump is the type of person who really hates anyone who stands up to him,” Cobb said.
“He turned the Justice Department into a tool for revenge and runs the country in a very authoritarian way with the help of a fearful cabinet and even more fearful Republicans in Congress.
That’s a tragedy, and it’s something we’re all dealing with.”
Cobb didn’t let Trump’s harsh words take over the conversation.
Instead, he paid tribute to Mueller:
“Instead of focusing on the terrible response of a crazy president, we should really remember the hero we lost today and find some inspiration and strength to stand up again for our country on No King’s Day.”
This is someone who used to work closely with Trump, calling him a “crazy narcissist” who hates opposition, uses the DOJ as a weapon, and leads with authoritarian fear.
While Trump is happy about the death of someone who investigated him, Cobb is sad about losing a public servant and is encouraging people to resist.
The difference is clear: Trump enjoys revenge, but his own former lawyer is warning about the danger to democracy.
