Things got heated in Australia’s Senate today when Greens Party Senator Nick McKim absolutely torched President Donald Trump – and blasted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for aligning Australia so closely with the United States as tensions escalate with Iran.
Looking directly at the government benches, McKim didn’t mince words.
“I mean, aren’t you embarrassed? This is the guy you’ve hitched us to at the hip,” McKim said, referring to Trump. “He is a fascist, war criminal, and fantasist.”
McKim accused the Albanese government of “obsequious toadying” to Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while supporting what he called an illegal war in Iran.
“You have hitched our country at the hip to him through AUKUS [Australia’s military alliance with the U.S. and UK] … through your obsequious toadying of the war criminals Trump and Netanyahu and their illegal war,” he said.
“It is humiliating, it’s embarrassing, and it’s degrading for our country.”
Let’s be clear what this moment shows: the backlash to Trump’s foreign policy isn’t just happening in the U.S. It’s erupting among America’s closest allies, where leaders and lawmakers are questioning why their countries are being dragged into conflicts tied to Trump’s alliances and militarism.
When even allied parliaments are openly calling the situation humiliating and dangerous, maybe it’s time to ask whether this reckless war posture is making the world safer – or just pushing us closer to disaster.
If you’re tired of Trump dragging allies into endless conflict and global embarrassment, like and share that the world deserves better leadership.
