Donald Trump arrived at Dover Air Force Base today for the respectful transfer of six U.S. soldiers who died in his unauthorized war with Iran – and turned one of the most serious presidential duties into a silly fashion mistake.
He showed up wearing a white “USA” golf cap, looking down and messing with his jacket like he wasn’t paying attention, clearly bored by what his aides were saying.
He was completely missing the importance of honoring the fallen.
This is the worst kind of disrespect: families who are hurting because their loved ones were killed in Trump’s oil-hungry war, and the president can’t even take off his cap or be there for the moment.
Picture the chaos if Obama had done this – people would shout “disrespectful,” “unpatriotic,” and even talk about impeachment.
But with Trump? No one from the right says a word, and he just shrugs off more deaths like it’s normal.
The dignified transfer is one of the most serious rituals a president has to do, and it’s supposed to be very serious.
Trump didn’t speak, as is tradition, but his clothes and how he acted said everything. With six troops already killed in this never-ending war – without Congress’s okay and with excuses changing from nukes to oil – this photo shows the coldness at the top.
Meanwhile, the Pope calls the war “immoral” and intelligence agencies warn about dangers that the White House is blocking.
Trump, on the other hand, treats fallen soldiers like they’re just part of a photo shoot.
Think about this.
Here’s a man who calls dead soldiers “losers” behind closed doors, sends them into danger without thinking, and now shows them no respect in public. Yet he’s seen as a great leader by a third of his followers who don’t see the truth.
Enough of this guy!
If Trump’s golf-cap disrespect at the Dover transfer makes you angry – and if the GOP had gone wild if Obama had done the same – then this is the moment to speak up.
