Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s supporters are promoting a different story after President Donald Trump said she would leave her job at the end of this month.
According to The Daily Caller’s Reagan Reese, Noem had issues with the Trump White House.
One administration official told Reese that Noem told Trump and his team she wasn’t getting the support she needed at the end of 2025. The official said Trump agreed and tried to help, which made things better for a while. But then, after federal agents shot and killed two Americans in Minneapolis, Noem felt she was being set up to fail.
That same official disagreed with Trump’s claim that he didn’t know about a controversial, $220 million ad campaign Noem was in.
The official said the White House knew about the ad contract and that senior officials were involved in getting the money approved. Trump denied knowing about the ad in comments to Reuters on Thursday.
Another official who talked to Reese said it was ridiculous that Noem was blaming the White House for her problems.
They said the issues that led to her replacement were because of her own mistakes, not a lack of support.
Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich reported that Noem’s removal was because of “a combination of her many unfortunate leadership failures, from Minnesota, to the ad campaign, to the allegations of an affair” with Corey Lewandowski, who has also been let go.
Heinrich said Noem was questioned about the $200 million advertising campaign she helped fund, which had her on horseback at Mount Rushmore.
It was an ad about border security. Noem told Congress that the president approved of the campaign, even though he apparently didn’t. Heinrich also noted that Noem “never denied sexual relations” with Lewandowski.
