Ana Navarro Warns Melania Trump: If They Can Take My Citizenship, They Can Take Yours Too
During Monday’s episode of The View, co-host Ana Navarro issued a pointed warning to former First Lady Melania Trump, saying that if naturalized citizens like herself can be stripped of U.S. citizenship, then Melania’s status could also be at risk.
The conversation began as the panel discussed Elon Musk and his renewed feud with Donald Trump, particularly the former president’s suggestion that Musk could be deported. Co-host Sunny Hostin highlighted that Musk’s companies have benefited from lucrative government contracts despite the tension, and noted a more serious concern: “The Department of Justice is now prioritizing stripping citizenship from naturalized citizens.”
Navarro responded with concern. “Girl, don’t give them any ideas,” she said, before pointing out, “Somebody should remind Trump that his wife is a naturalized citizen.”
Hostin quickly agreed, “She sure is.”
Navarro continued: “If my naturalized citizenship can be taken away, then so can hers by somebody else in the future.”
Navarro, who was born in Nicaragua and came to the United States with her family seeking refuge from political unrest, became a U.S. citizen through naturalization. Melania Trump, originally from Slovenia, came to the U.S. in 2001 under the EB-1 “Einstein visa,” a program meant for individuals with extraordinary ability. At the time, she was working as a fashion model.
Navarro’s comments underscore growing concerns among immigrants—especially naturalized citizens—about recent discussions around the government’s authority to revoke citizenship, a power that has traditionally been used sparingly but has come under renewed scrutiny.
