This evening, President Trump is sending 400 members of the Texas National Guard to be deployed in Illinois, Oregon, and other parts of the United States. Pritzker wrote on X that no federal officials contacted him directly to discuss or plan this.
He says we need to call this what it really is: Trump’s Invasion.
It began with federal agents, and soon it will involve using federalized Illinois National Guard members against our will. Now, another state’s military is being sent in, too.
He urges Governor Abbott to immediately stop supporting this decision and to refuse to work with the administration.
There’s no reason a president should send military troops into a state without that state’s knowledge, agreement, or help.
The brave men and women in our national guards should not be used as political tools.
This is a moment where every American needs to speak up and help stop this chaos, he said.
Along with the Texas troops, Trump is taking control of at least 300 Illinois National Guard soldiers “right away for 60 days,” supposedly to guard federal buildings.
In truth, this is an increase in Trump’s reckless authoritarian behavior and a step toward his promise to fight American cities.
His presidency is struggling, the economy is in trouble, and he knows he must act now to seize control before his administration falls apart due to public anger. If he can get soldiers onto our streets, there will be no turning back.
This is nothing less than the president of the United States using an army from a red state to invade a blue state.
Pritzker is brave to say it like it is. Now, it’s up to all of us to stand up, speak out, and protect our democracy.
