Washington– President Trump revealed Monday the U.S. military has performed a second strike on alleged Venezuelan “narcoterrorists” in international waters.
The president said in a post on Fact Social that the strike eliminated three “male terrorists” whom he accused of transferring illegal drugs. The post consisted of a video that appeared to reveal a strike on a boat. He did not define where the strike occurred, other than to say it remained in the U.S. Southern Command’s location of responsibility, which covers the Caribbean Sea and South America.
The strike took place Monday morning, the president said.
The attack came two weeks after the military struck another declared drug-carrying boat in the Caribbean. The president stated 11 individuals were eliminated in that strike. The boat seemed turning around when it was struck, CBS News has previously reported.
And on Saturday, Venezuela accused the U.S. of boarding and seizing a fishing boat for 8 hours. The South American country called the move a “direct provocation” and implicated the Trump administration of trying to find a pretense to oust the Maduro routine. There is no sign that the U.S. is preparing an impending strike on Venezuelan territory.
The U.S. deployed a number of naval vessels to the waters off Venezuelastarting last month. Maduro’s government called the implementation an “absolutely criminal and bloody hazard” and relocated to deploy soldiers to its coast.
Venezuelan fighter jets flew in the vicinity of a U.S. naval ship two times previously this month, in what Defense Department officials described to CBS News as a “show of force” and a “game of chicken.”
Stress in between the U.S. and Venezuela have ratcheted up in recent weeks, as the Trump administration accuses Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his federal government of teaming up with gangs and drug cartels– a charge Venezuela has actually rejected. Last month, the Trump administration doubled the reward for Maduro’s capture on criminal charges to $50 million.
” BE CAUTIONED– IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING DRUGS THAT CAN KILL AMERICANS, WE ARE SEARCHING YOU!” Mr. Trump wrote.
