Liam Ramos, a five-year-old boy, was taken by ICE agents in Minnesota while on his way home from school. They used him as a way to get his father too. The picture of Liam, wearing a blue hat and his backpack, looking scared and small, really upset people across the country. Everyone is shocked by how cruel and heartless Stephen Miller’s deportation policies are.
Liam was sent to a detention center in Dilley, Texas, which is known for having terrible living conditions.
He reportedly got sick from the bad food and was very sad because he was taken away from his mom, his friends, and his school. He was scared and thrown into a scary place by people wearing masks.
Luckily, Judge Fred Biery, who was appointed by Bill Clinton, has ordered Liam’s release, and it was a big deal.
The judge wrote, “This case started because of the bad and poorly run government policy of daily deportation targets, even if it means hurting kids.”
He added, “The government also seems to not know about the Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson listed some problems with a possible authoritarian king. Among others were:”
1.”He has sent hither Swarms of Officers to harass our People.”
2.”He has excited domestic Insurrection among us.”
3.”For quartering large Bodies of Armed Troops among us.”
4.”He has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies without the consent of our Legislatures.”
The judge said people are hearing echoes of this history.
He went on, “It’s a civics lesson for the government!”
He added, “Warrants given by the executive branch to itself don’t meet the legal standard for probable cause.
That’s like having a fox guard the henhouse.”
The Constitution requires an unbiased judge.
So the court decided that the US Constitution is more important than this administration’s decision to detain Adrian Conejo Arias and his son.
Judge Biery made it clear how serious the situation is, ending his order by writing, “With a judicial finger in the constitutional dike, it is so ORDERED.”
Wow.
Judge Biery is taking this seriously. It’s about time someone called out the Trump administration for their constant breaking of the Constitution and took action to fix at least one of the many unfair and illegal detentions they have done to a scared and innocent immigrant community.
