Jones really wanted the court to change the decision from a case in Connecticut, where a jury gave him a huge $964 million judgment because he missed important deadlines and ignored court orders. That was later followed by another $473 million in extra punishment for his actions.
This case started because Jones tried to say the Sandy Hook school shooting — where 20 kids and 6 teachers died — was a fake event involving “crisis actors.”
As he made money from people who believed his false claims, especially from conservative supporters, the families of the victims faced a lot of harassment and even death threats.
The Supreme Court didn’t say anything about the new order, and they didn’t ask the Sandy Hook families to respond to the appeal, which helped avoid more pain for them.
This whole process has been really hard for everyone involved, and they finally deserve some peace.
It’s important to remember why Jones was able to make so much money by spreading these crazy lies.
Many Republicans wanted to believe the shooting was fake because it made it easier for them to avoid dealing with the real issue: how easily people can get guns. They preferred a complicated, silly story over sensible gun control laws.
