First Lady Melanie Trump strongly urged Congress to let the victims of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein testify.
During a press conference on Thursday, Trump said she had no connection with Epstein and dismissed all the “mean-spirited attempts” to damage her reputation.
She called on Congress to act so the truth can come out.
“Now is the time for Congress to act,” she said.
“Epstein wasn’t acting alone. Many prominent male executives left their powerful jobs after this issue became a big political topic. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’re guilty. But we still need to work openly and transparently to find the truth.”
Trump continued:
“I call on congress to provide the women who have been victimized by Epstein with the public hearing specifically centered around the survivors. Give these victims their opportunity to testify under oath in front of congress with the power of sworn testimony. Each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public if she wishes. And then her testimony should be permanently entered in to the congressional record. Then and only then will we have the truth. Thank you.”
When asked about her relationship with Epstein, Trump called the “false smears” that have spread around the issue.
“I have never been friends with Epstein,” she said.
“Donald and I were sometimes invited to the same parties as Epstein, as it’s common for people in New York City and Palm Beach to overlap in social circles. To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.”
