When politicians pretend they don’t know about something, journalists should push back strongly.
“Reporters, the tweet is short enough that you can just give it to members of Congress if they say they haven’t seen it,” Schatz tweeted.
Schatz was talking about a common move that top Republicans use whenever Trump says or does something that really crosses the line.
They often say they haven’t seen the worst posts on Truth Social when asked about them. Speaker Mike Johnson is especially bad at this.
In reality, these Republicans have likely seen Trump’s posts.
They just don’t have the guts to criticize them or support them directly for fear of losing their fake “Christian” image. And if they truly haven’t been keeping up with Trump’s posts on Truth Social, they’re failing in their job. Since this president often makes big policy decisions through social media, elected officials should closely follow his account.
Trump’s recent post about the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner was some of his worst writing yet.
He wrote, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood.
Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession with President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before.
May Rob and Michele rest in peace!” he added.
Reporters should take Senator Schatz’s suggestion seriously.
They should print out Trump’s post or open it on their phones and hand it to any Republicans who claim they haven’t seen it. Make them face it in public, right then and there, and show their weakness for everyone to see.
