McEnany appeared on Fox & Friends Weekend and mentioned a better-than-expected jobs report as one positive sign for Republicans heading into the midterms.
She also referred to a Gallup poll from last month, which showed that people’s concerns about the economy and crime and violence had slightly decreased over the past year.
Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany told Republicans on Saturday that the midterms will be tough, but she said her former boss, President Donald Trump, is in a good position to help the party keep control of Congress.
McEnany, who worked as White House press secretary during Trump’s first term, still said the midterms will be hard for any party in power.
“I think there’s a sense he’s doing things,” she said.
“Not to put too rosy a picture on it though, midterms will be hard for Republicans. It’s just historically difficult to win when you’re in power, but I would like my odds more with this president than prior presidents,” she said.
“Plus, a little voter security will go a long way,” Kevin Corke added.
“Just saying.”
Trump has been pushing for the SAVE Act, which requires voter ID legislation.
The bill passed the House but is facing challenges in the Senate.
The Gallup poll was conducted from March 2 to 18 and included 1,000 U.S. adults.
It has a margin of error of 4%. The survey showed that concerns about the economy dropped by 9%, and worries about crime and violence declined by 8% over the past year. Concerns about illegal immigration and inflation also dropped by 7% and 6%, respectively.
The jobs report released this week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that employers added 178,000 jobs in March, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.3%.
