In another heated argument on the phone with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, our president got really angry at the media, saying they report things they “know are false” and claimed:
“It’s almost treasonous, actually, if you want to really know the truth.
It’s almost treasonous.”
He called The New York Times, CNN, ABC, and NBC “fake news” and said they are better at public relations than at actually doing their job.
I really want to know the truth, and I think it’s this: Trump actually hates the real truth.
He wants a truth that he can shape and use for his own benefit, just like his autocrat friends in Moscow, Pyongyang, and Istanbul. A free press is the biggest problem for his plans to act like a dictator.
He doesn’t like a key part of our country’s founding that has helped make America great since Jefferson said he would rather have newspapers without government than government without newspapers.
Trump doesn’t want the America the Founders created with a free press, checks and balances, and truth as the base of democracy.
He wants people to be loyal without question, have state-controlled media, and be punished if they report facts that are uncomfortable for him.
We must stand up for the free press with everything we have, because without it, American democracy is in big trouble.
