“We believe the Hatch Act clearly stops using public resources for political stuff and messages,” said Molly Prescott, a spokesperson for the Port of Portland, which runs Portland International Airport, according to The Washington Post.
“This is the first time we know of that the Port has refused to show the video,” she added.
The Hatch Act from 1939 says federal workers can’t do political things at work, and it’s meant to stop the ruling party from misusing government power.
In the video, Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, says, “It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe.”
She also says, “However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government and because of this, many of our operations are impacted and most of our TSA employees are working without pay. We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel and our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government.”
Besides being a crazy misuse of power, Noem is clearly lying.
Republicans control all parts of the government. They caused this shutdown by refusing to agree to extend important Affordable Care Act subsidies. MAGA wants to completely remove healthcare support — even after the “big, beautiful bill” cut $1 trillion from Medicaid — and Democrats are standing up for the American people to stop them.
According to the Post’s report, more than half a dozen places are not showing the video.
Officials from the Buffalo, Charlotte, Cleveland, Portland, Phoenix, and Seattle airports have all said it goes against internal rules about political messages or breaks state or federal laws.
County Executive Ken Jenkins called the Noem video “inconsistent with the values we expect from our nation’s top public officials” and “unnecessarily alarmist” while talking about Westchester’s decision not to show it.
Rob Britton, a former American Airlines executive, told the Post that he has “been around this business a long, long time” and doesn’t remember seeing anything like Noem’s video before.
MAGA isn’t even trying to hide what they’re doing anymore.
They’re using every tool of power to keep their control as Trump’s popularity drops. There has never been a more corrupt White House in American history, and every single one of these people must be held responsible for what they’re doing.
In the meantime, we can all learn from the airports that aren’t showing Noem’s video.
When it comes to fascism, never give an inch.
