BREAKING: MAGA Secretary of State Marco Rubio brings down the hammer on people who are not mourning the death of far-right demagogue Charlie Kirk and admits that his State Department has “most certainly been denying visas” to people allegedly “celebrating” the killing.
The entire federal government is mobilizing to whitewash this hatemonger’s legacy…
“If you’re a foreigner and you’re out there celebrating the assassination of someone who was speaking somewhere, I mean, we don’t want you in the country,” said Rubio.
“Why would we want to give a visa to someone who think it’s good that someone was murdered in the public square? That’s just common sense to me,” he added.
Crucially, Rubio did not state how many visas have been denied, nor did he explain the exact criteria by which the State Department is defining “celebration.” Is sharing a meme enough to get your visa blocked? What about simply posting an exact Kirk quote that casts him in a bad light? Republicans have been clamoring to get people fired for sharing the hateful, racist things that Kirk said.
It’s not enough for conservatives that we condemn the killing — which the vast majority of Democrats have emphatically done — they want us to pretend that Kirk was some kind of American hero who left being a sterling legacy. In reality, he made America a more divided, uglier place. His death is a tragedy but his life was spent in the service of bigotry.
This move from Rubio is part of a broader trend by the Trump administration to tamp down on their political opponents. Visas have been revoked for protesting against Israel’s destruction of Gaza and now their assault on the First Amendment is expanding. Republicans only believe in free speech when it’s speech they agree with.
