“I think it’s almost like a referendum on what’s happening nationally,” said Democrat Denise Williams. Williams got the most votes for the council.
“The common message I heard from door-to-door knocking was that people are very upset with what’s happening across the country,” she added.
And how could they not be?
Trump’s tariffs are raising the cost of everything, he cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, and we’re stuck in the longest government shutdown in history because of his poor leadership. Plus, his mental decline is more obvious than ever, and we still don’t know why he had an MRI scan last month.
Five seats were up for election in Luzerne, all held by Republicans, and Democrats won all but one.
“I’m really happy.
I’m happy for everyone,” said Williams.
Trump won Luzerne County in the 2024 election, getting 90,370 votes to Kamala Harris’s 59,966 — that’s 59.5% to 39.5%.
It was a big step in him winning the state and the overall election. Now, it’s clearly turning against him.
Along with the council, former Democratic County Councilman Tim McGinley beat Republican Walter L. Griffith Jr. in the Controller race.
Democrat Mark Bufalino also won against Republican Tom Mosca to become the new common pleas court judge.
The more we learn about Tuesday’s blue wave, the more clear it is that Republicans are in for a big defeat in the midterms.
Americans are angry and ready to vote.”
