Standards are back at The @DeptofWar, Hegseth wrote on X, sharing a screenshot from a “Task & Purpose” article titled “Some Texas National Guard troops replaced in Illinois after failing to meet standards.”
The article reports that the Texas Military Department has removed an unspecified number of troops from Chicago for not meeting compliance with the validation process.
This happened after a wave of mockery on social media over a photo of overweight soldiers arriving in Illinois from Texas, with some calling them “Meal Team Six.”
It was a perfect storm of public backlash, with Americans upset about the deployment itself and also angry with Hegseth for his recent embarrassing speech to the generals.
“Frankly, it’s tiring to look out at combat formations, or really any formation, and see fat troops,” Hegseth said last month.
“Likewise, it’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon leading commands around the country and the world.”
This incident is a perfect example of Trumpism.
It’s deeply incompetent and embarrassing for the United States of America that we’re even talking about something like this. It was done in service of fascism. These troops, no matter how they looked, should never have been in Illinois. Trump’s attempt to use soldiers from a red state to control a blue state would be grounds for impeachment in saner times.
