Petro said during his speech at the U.N. General Assembly that criminal cases should be opened against those officials from the U.S., even if it includes the top official who gave the order, President Trump.
So far, Trump has carried out three such attacks that we know about.
He claims the targets were drug traffickers working for cartels, but he hasn’t provided any proof for his statements. Even if they were drug smugglers, Trump didn’t have the legal right to kill them without permission. They should have been arrested and taken to court.
Petro said the victims weren’t members of the Tren De Aragua gang, as the White House claimed, but were “just poor young people from Latin America with no other choice.”
“They claimed the missiles in the Caribbean were used to stop drug trafficking.
That is a lie being told right here in this hall,” Petro said.
He also asked, “Was it really necessary to bomb unarmed, poor young people in the Caribbean?”
In a fair world, Trump should be held responsible for his actions.
These attacks aren’t meant to reduce drug deaths in the U.S. — they’re meant to make Trump look like a strong, military leader to his supporters and to scare people in the Global South.
