The boat that was attacked on September 16 was Colombian, had an engine on top showing it was damaged, and was turned off. It was likely in Colombian waters. The only person there was Alejandro Carranza, a lifelong fisherman who hasn’t returned home. Petro wrote this on X.
He also sent an alert to the Attorney General, asking for immediate action.
He wants protection for the victim’s families and for them to be linked with victims from Trinidad and Tobago to take legal action in other countries, including the US.
Trump has been carrying out several military strikes on boats in the Caribbean and says all the victims were drug traffickers.
But he hasn’t given any proof for this. Even if they were drug smugglers—something that’s getting less likely—they should have been caught and taken to court.
In a follow-up post, Petro said, “US government officials have committed murder and violated our country’s waters.
Fisherman Alejandro Carranza had nothing to do with drugs. He just fished for a living.” He also said the Colombian boat was floating and had a distress signal because of an engine problem. He is waiting for answers from the US government.
Petro also asked, “Why don’t national news outlets care that a U.S. missile killed a simple fisherman from Colombia in Santa Marta?”
He said the USA attacked a family of fishermen in a city that will host a big meeting between Latin America and Europe. “The USA invaded our country with a missile to kill a humble fisherman, destroyed his family, his children. This is the homeland of Bolívar, and they’re killing his children with bombs. The USA insulted our country and killed a hardworking Colombian. Let the sword of Bolívar be raised!”
In another post, the Colombian president said he respects the “history, culture, and people of the USA” and that Americans aren’t his “enemies.
“
He added, “The problem is with Trump, not with the USA.
Trump doesn’t understand how so many young Americans could go fight for a war that seemed like it wasn’t their own. Many died there, and they knew why they were fighting. They fought for humanity. Trump doesn’t understand that.”
Investigative reporter Seth Harp, who wrote “The Fort Bragg Cartel,” has been watching these attacks closely.
He explained on X why it will be hard for Trump’s administration to hide what they are doing with these strikes.
“I’ve been talking about JSOC’s wild targeting for years, and I’ve predicted that if they ever did strikes in Latin America, we would see clear evidence that US intelligence is terrible and that they have no idea who they’re killing,” Harp wrote.
He also said, “Offensive US military operations are mostly random terrorism, but the ‘surgical strike’ myth was kept alive in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria because of language barriers and the lack of real governments there.
By contrast, one in four Americans can read this and judge for themselves.”
At this point, there’s no reason to believe anything Trump says.
He’s a lying liar with the morals of a sociopath, using the U.S. military to run a deadly terror campaign. These strikes are meant to boost his MAGA base by making him look like a strong leader, while pushing the country toward another war that benefits the military-industrial complex and Big Oil.
We won’t fall for the lies.
