President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the wife of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, to the Board of Visitors for the United States Air Force Academy. Erika now holds the title of chair of Turning Point USA, which her husband inherited after he was killed. Her name was quietly added to the board’s list over the weekend without any official announcement from the academy.
In her new job, Erika Kirk will advise the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Air Force on issues like cadet morale, discipline, well-being, curriculum, academic standards, finances, equipment, and training facilities.
That’s interesting—future officers of the Air Force and Space Force will be getting advice from someone whose main qualification appears to be taking over her late husband’s political connections after he was killed last September.
Charlie Kirk was also put on the same board by Trump in March 2025.
He attended one meeting in August and was killed the next month. After his death, Erika took over leadership at Turning Point USA and has become more visible in politics, often choosing flashy, tight outfits.
Let’s be honest—what real experience does she have in managing military education, cadet welfare, or handling large budgets and facilities at one of the country’s top service academies?
None. This isn’t based on merit—it’s about being the widow of someone connected to the administration.
Trump is filling the board that shapes future military leaders with loyalists and family members while the Pentagon spends billions on things like grand pianos, lobster tails, and recliners, even as the country faces a $1.8 trillion deficit, rising deaths among troops in Iran, and families struggling with SNAP benefits.
The message is clear: loyalty and connections are more important than qualifications.
If the idea of appointing an unqualified, opportunistic political widow to oversee cadets and finances at the Air Force Academy makes you roll your eyes, like and share to say it out loud: Merit matters!
