Major General (Ret.) Paul D. Eaton has plenty of experience dealing with bad wars in the Middle East, having led US troops during the Iraq War. He’s one of the best people to talk about Trump’s dangerous and illegal attacks on Iran. In a public statement, he strongly criticized the President for breaking the Constitution:
“People who know more about war than Donald Trump ever will have told him over and over about the dangers of starting a war with Iran.
Trump even said there would be casualties in his speech to the American people. The Constitution is very clear about this.”
“When the president starts wars on his own, especially when American lives are at risk, he should go to Congress and get approval.
That didn’t happen, and these actions are clearly unconstitutional.”
“More importantly, these actions seem to have no clear purpose.
Trump says they’re to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, but just last year he claimed we ‘obliterated’ that program. It looks like they’re hitting missile sites, but Trump says it’s about changing the Iranian government. A war without a clear goal is a war with no real purpose. And a war with no purpose becomes a Forever War.”
“Trump said these kinds of Forever Wars would never happen under his presidency.
He lied. Just like he lied about lowering prices and bringing back jobs, he lied again.”
“The Republican Congress must now hold him responsible, or we will hold Republicans in Congress responsible in November.”
He’s absolutely right.
We know that nothing will happen to the weak and broken House Republicans, who will quickly approve anything Trump does, including protecting people who commit serious crimes.
So it’s up to us to vote them all out in November and then start the impeachment process for all the times Trump has broken his constitutional promises and broken the laws of our once great nation.
This war is going to be extremely bad; one of our top military radar stations in the Middle East has already been destroyed, and many children have been killed by US-made Israeli missiles.
