Michelle Obama said the United States is in a “janky” period during President Donald Trump’s time. On her podcast, “IMO,” which she hosts with her brother Craig Robinson, Obama and comedian Hasan Minhaj both said the current state of the country is “janky.”
Obama explained, “That’s the 2.0 of life.
When we talk about how you feel about the country, there are different versions, right? And the new version doesn’t make the old one bad. It’s needed for growth. And I think we’re in just a janky version.”
Minhaj said, “Things are really janky right now.
Super janky.”
Obama mentioned Minnesota and the reactions in and around Minneapolis after federal immigration agents shot and killed two American citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, during a mass deportation operation.
“Right now, I’m really impressed with how people are starting to respond.
Minnesota, that was powerful stuff. It was a powerful reminder of what a group of people can do and are willing to do to protect each other,” she said.
Obama also said Americans have started “taking things for granted.”
“When you’re not so janky, you don’t have to prove it, right?
And so we haven’t been this janky for a while,” she said. “And I think our ability to understand the truth just got a little loose. We started taking things for granted, right.”
