Melania Trump held a press conference at the White House today to strongly deny any links to her husband’s former best friend, Jeffrey Epstein, a well-known and controversial figure.
Melania said, “The false claims linking me with Jeffrey Epstein must stop now.
The people spreading these lies have no sense of ethics, humility, or respect. I don’t mind their ignorance, but I do reject their attempts to damage my reputation.”
She added, “I was never friends with Epstein.
Donald and I were sometimes invited to the same events as him, which was common in places like New York City and Palm Beach.”
Melania clarified, “I never had any relationship with Epstein or his associate, Maxwell.
My email response to Maxwell was just a simple, polite message. It was nothing more than a brief reply.”
She also said, “I was not a victim of Epstein.
He didn’t introduce me to Donald. We met by chance at a party in New York City in 1998, and this meeting is detailed in my book, Melania.”
Melania continued, “These false accusations from people with bad intentions and political motives, who are trying to damage my name for personal gain and political reasons, need to stop.
My lawyers and I have successfully fought these lies, and we will keep protecting my good reputation.”
She emphasized, “We will not stop pushing for the full release of the Epstein files and following leads that point to places Melania doesn’t want us to go.”
Social media was surprised by the press conference, with many asking what big news could be coming out that required such a statement.
Tommy Vietor, of Pod Save America, tweeted, “What the f*ck was that Melania statement???
What story are they pushing at the White House??”
Writer Erin Ryan joked, “My ‘Not friends with Jeffrey Epstein’ press conference has people asking a lot of questions that were already answered by the press conference.”
Here’s what we DO know.
Melania was first introduced to Donald Trump by Paolo Zampolli, a modeling agent who worked with Epstein in his effort to buy the modeling agency Elite Model Management. Trump has appointed Zampolli to the Kennedy Center board, and in January, he represented the U.S. at the World Economic Forum.
