A top Democrat just criticized Republicans for their usual move: blaming others while the rich get wealthier and regular people struggle more.
During a heated meeting of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Jim McGovern spoke up strongly.
“They keep bringing up one distraction after another in the House,” McGovern said, accusing Republicans of pushing harmful culture-war laws while ignoring the real issues families face with money.
Instead of focusing on the rising cost of living, unfair business practices, or helping workers in trouble, McGovern said Republicans keep blaming immigrants, transgender youth, and political rivals.
“Blame the immigrants.
Blame trans kids. Blame Joe Biden. Blame everyone,” he said. “But don’t blame the president and his billionaire friends.”
Then McGovern shared a shocking fact that made people in the room quiet.
According to the Massachusetts Democrat, the government is spending $1 billion every day on wars overseas — even though there’s no money for programs that really help Americans.
No funds to help seniors heat their homes.
No money for healthy breakfasts for kids at school.
No help for SNAP benefits so seniors and veterans can afford food.
Yet, McGovern said, there’s always money for war and tax cuts for the super rich.
“There’s always time to argue about silly bills that shift blame onto immigrants and trans kids,” McGovern said.
“But there’s never time or money to fix the real problems the American people are crying out for.”
His final point was clear: “This is a shameful moment for this Congress.”
For millions watching Washington play politics while they struggle to pay bills, McGovern’s message was powerful: stop the distractions — and start helping people.
