In terms of the off ramp? Here’s the off ramp: Donald Trump should return to Washington D.C.! Why are you at a golf event right now, while the government is only four days away from shutting down?” Jeffries said on CSPAN.
Government funding is set to expire on September 30th.
The MAGA-controlled House passed a short-term bill to keep the government running until November 21st, but it hasn’t moved forward in the Senate. Trump needs to get the Democrats to support him, and to do that, he’ll have to make some big compromises. As usual, his pride and stubbornness are taking priority over the needs of the American people.
“That’s outrageous,” said Jeffries.
“And it shows that these people, these extremists, don’t care about the health, safety, or economic well-being of the American people,” he added. “They couldn’t care less! They’re on vacation right now. I’m in Washington D.C., ready, willing, and able to meet with any of them, anytime, anywhere.
“We were ready to go to the White House and have this discussion.
In front of the American people, Donald Trump backed out,” said Jeffries. “Why did Donald Trump back out? Because their position is indefensible! And they know Democrats are standing up for the healthcare of the American people.”
Jeffries told reporters on Wednesday that Trump must agree to address healthcare for the American people and it has to be “ironclad and in legislation” if he wants Democratic help to avoid a shutdown.
Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are specifically focused on addressing crucial insurance subsidies used by more than 20 million Americans, which are set to expire at the end of 2025.
Earlier this week, Trump avoided a meeting with Democratic leaders and said their demands were “unserious and ridiculous.”
Instead of discussing their real requests, he accused them of wanting “free healthcare for illegal aliens,” open borders, and “transgender operations for everyone.”
If Trump refuses to even acknowledge Democrats’ real demands—which are about helping Americans with healthcare—then talks are impossible.
He’s talking about crazy, far-fetched conspiracy theories and playing golf while America heads toward disaster.
