At the request of Denmark, I have decided that France will take part in the joint exercises organized by Denmark in Greenland, called Operation Arctic Endurance. The first French military units are already heading there. More will follow, Macron wrote on X.
“We don’t take statements about Greenland lightly,” Macron said elsewhere.
“If the sovereignty of a European country and ally were ever at risk, the consequences would be huge. France is watching the situation very closely and will stand firmly with Denmark and support its sovereignty.”
Earlier today, Germany also announced they will send troops to Greenland as part of a reconnaissance mission with other European countries.
This comes as Trump increases his tough talk about the Arctic island. The joint European mission was specifically requested by Denmark, which is an autonomous territory.
“The goal is to look into the possibilities for military support to help Denmark keep the area safe,” said the German Defense Ministry.
“Security in the Arctic is very important to the Kingdom and our Arctic allies.
That’s why we must, together with our allies, keep improving our ability to operate in the region,” said Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
“The Danish Defense Forces, along with several Arctic and European allies, will look in the coming weeks at how we can increase our presence and conduct more exercises in the Arctic,” he added.
Denmark will also send more planes, navy ships, and ground troops to and around Greenland as part of these increased training and exercises.
It’s hard to imagine how bad the situation is becoming for America.
Our closest allies are now getting ready to stop a possible attack on a NATO member, all because Trump likes to think of himself as a conqueror. His dreams of empire are like a child’s imagination with no real world sense. The U.S. doesn’t need to take over Greenland because there’s no limit to the military equipment we can already have there. This is all about showing off. Trump is trying to create a legacy as his home policies fall apart.
As for the MAGA supporters who are blindly supporting Trump’s aggressive actions, boasting that the U.S. would win in a war with Europe, they are completely missing the point.
With a more expansionist Russia and a rising China, America needs its European allies more than ever. No matter how this Greenland situation turns out, Trump has permanently hurt our most important alliances.
