President Donald Trump has given a pardon to Joseph Schwartz, who runs a nursing home in Arkansas and was found guilty of a big $39 million fraud scheme. Schwartz admitted to not paying the IRS the taxes he took from his workers and not submitting the needed financial reports for his employees’ benefit plan. A federal court sentenced him to three years in prison.
He only served three months before asking for a pardon, which he got by using his wealth to hire top lobbyists to fight for his freedom.
This is part of a troubling trend.
Trump has often used his pardon power to help nursing home owners and other powerful people who had access to the White House or spent a lot on lobbyists.
According to Pro Publica, the result has been terrible for families.
Patients in Schwartz’s nursing homes died because of poor care, and their families won millions in lawsuits, but couldn’t get any money.
Schwartz gave himself millions while avoiding paying the millions he owed to the government and his workers.
Now, because of Trump’s pardon, Schwartz’s criminal record is gone, and the victims are left with nothing.
This is how Trump sees justice: helping the rich and powerful who can reach the White House, while ordinary families and workers suffer.
If you’re upset that Trump pardoned someone for nearly $40 million in fraud because he used his money to buy his way out of prison, like and share.
No more letting the pardon power be a way for the wealthy to avoid punishment!
