Catholics around the world are asking for JD Vance to be removed from the Catholic Church because he suggested Donald Trump might use nuclear weapons against Iran, according to Catholic writer Christopher Hale from the “Letters from Leo” Substack. Hale shared a video of Vance talking about “tools in our toolkit,” which many believe was a way of saying Trump might use nuclear weapons to destroy Iran, a terrible possibility that was stopped by a fragile ceasefire.
This call for Vance to be removed from the Church got stronger today when The Free Press reported that Cardinal Christophe Pierre, who represents the Vatican in the U.S., was called to the Pentagon.
During the meeting, Trump’s staff criticized the Pope for speaking out against Trump’s harsh foreign policies.
One Trump official even mentioned the Avignon Papacy, a time in the 14th century when a French king used his army to make the Pope live in Avignon.
Today, this term is used to describe when a government takes control of the Vatican. The implication was that Trump could use the U.S. military to pressure Pope Leo into doing what he wants.
When asked about this serious threat, Vance first said he didn’t know who Cardinal Pierre was, and then claimed he wasn’t aware of the story, so he couldn’t comment on it.
Vance likes to show off his recent conversion to Catholicism, but he doesn’t show any kindness, compassion, or charity that is expected of a Christian.
He acts like a person full of cruelty, selfishness, and a lack of meaning.
If Pope Leo decided to remove Vance from the Church, it would mean he couldn’t take part in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, which Catholics believe is the real body and blood of Christ.
In effect, he would be cast out of the Catholic faith.
The rules about being removed from the Church are strict and clear.
Two possible reasons are causing a split in the Church or threatening the Pope. If Vance supports Trump’s idea of using the military against Pope Leo, either directly or by not speaking out against it, that would fit both reasons for being removed.
As Hale wrote, the bishops who have the final say over Vance’s status in the Church are Cardinal Robert McElroy and Archbishop Robert Casey.
Both can start the process of removing someone from the Church.
In the end, we wait for Pope Leo’s decision on this matter because he has shown himself to be one of the most important moral leaders in the world during these difficult times.
