In a strongly critical decision, Judge Richard J. Leon said, “The President of the United States is the caretaker of the White House for future generations of First Families. He is not, however, the owner… no law gives the President the power he says he has.”
“Unless and until Congress approves this project through a law, construction must stop!”
That final sentence really captures what has been happening during Donald Trump’s presidency.
He has been deliberately and openly breaking the law, pushing ahead with illegal projects and trying to destroy everything around him faster than the courts can stop him, like a frustrated toddler in a room full of traffic cones.
Fortunately for us, this creates a whole new set of problems for Mike Johnson and the Republicans.
Getting the go-ahead for this ridiculous display of luxury, which seems like a way to hold out after losing an election, will cost political capital that Johnson doesn’t have to waste.
And it will make Trump furious when he finds out, especially since he’s already in a mess from his terrible war in Iran, his low approval ratings, and the fact that everyone hates him.
We need to fight this ballroom at every opportunity.
This is the People’s House, not Demented Old Pedophile’s House, and he shouldn’t get to decide what goes on there.
