Bruce Springsteen stepped onto the big stage at the huge “No Kings” rally in St. Paul, Minnesota, and gave a strong, heartfelt speech that made the crowd stand up and cheer before he even started singing.
He began by talking about what happened in Minneapolis during the winter.
“Well, federal troops brought death and fear to the streets of Minneapolis. Well, they picked the wrong city,” Springsteen said, getting loud cheers. “The power and unity of the people of Minneapolis and Minnesota inspired the whole country. Your strength and dedication showed us that this is still America.”
He then directly criticized the Trump administration:
“And this crazy nightmare and attacks on our cities won’t be allowed.
You gave us hope, you gave us courage…”
Springsteen then paid tribute to the people who lost their lives.
“For those who gave their lives — Renee Good, a mother of three, murdered brutally, Alex Pretti, a VA nurse, killed by ICE, shot in the back and left to die in the street without even the basic respect of our broken government looking into their deaths.
Their bravery, their sacrifice, and their names will never be forgotten.”
He ended the speech with a new verse he wrote especially for the event, describing citizens standing up against “King Trump’s private army from the DHS” in the face of smoke and rubber bullets.
This is Bruce Springsteen talking about the America we all love and worry about losing to Trump and his supporters — using his fame to speak out against power that’s out of control, honor those who died, and remind the country that people are still fighting back.
The national “No Kings” rallies are showing that millions of Americans won’t accept Trump’s idea of total power and are ready to resist.
For many years, Springsteen has written and sung about the America he loves, including all its problems, and today used his influence to help protect the way of life he’s described for his fans for years.
