Political analysts and observers criticized Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) after he had a difficult interview with CNN about the war in Iran on Wednesday.
Fetterman appeared on CNN’s “The Source” with Kaitlan Collins, where he was asked about his choice not to sign a letter calling for an investigation into a bombing that hit a girls’ school in Iran.
Reports say the attack, likely caused by a Tomahawk missile that the U.S. uses, killed around 182 civilians, mostly children. U.S. forces were nearby at the time.
When asked about his decision, Fetterman said he didn’t sign the letter because all of Congress agreed the event was a tragedy.
He also criticized how the media was covering the story, and mentioned that he didn’t agree with his colleagues who called the war “dumb.”
“I think it’s necessary and I support it,” Fetterman said regarding the war.
Many political analysts and observers were not happy with Fetterman’s comments, and shared their reactions on social media.
“Fetterman claims that ‘left media’ like the New York Times is too focused on innocent children dying because war is a ‘good thing,’” political communications expert J.J. Abbott wrote on X.
“Someone please stop this guy from doing these cable hits,” Abbott added.
“Watching and listening to @SenFettermanPA is painful,” the Monroe County, Pennsylvania Democratic Party wrote on X.
He is nearly unintelligible. And WHY is he so defensive, defiant, and rude…unless he’s on Fox? He acts like a toddler. Fetterman never misses an opportunity to bash Democrats. SOMEONE PRIMARY HIM IN 2028!!!”
“Fetterman thinks murdering innocent Iranian schoolgirls because of an oopsie is irrelevant,” former Jeopardy champion Hemant Mehta posted on X.
Collins: Every senate Democrat except you signed a letter today asking for an investigation into that strike on a girls school in Iran. Why did you not sign that letter?
