Special Counsel Jack Smith, who led the Biden administration’s investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, was called to appear before the House Judiciary Committee by Jim Jordan, a Republican who supports people who harm children. This was meant for Republicans to criticize Jack Smith for doing his job and following the law.
Rep. Raskins from Maryland did not agree with Jordan’s plan to put Jack Smith on trial in a ridiculous way.
He gave a strong speech explaining what was really happening.
“Mr. Smith, you are one of America’s top prosecutors.
For almost 30 years, you have worked to make justice happen for both Republicans and Democrats. You worked at the Manhattan DA’s office, where you dealt with cases involving sex crimes and domestic violence.”
“You also worked in the Eastern District of New York, where you prosecuted murderers, rapists, gang members, and other violent criminals.
You were in charge of the public integrity section at the Department of Justice, and you brought charges against corrupt officials from all political sides. When you went to The Hague as the chief prosecutor in the Kosovo trial, you dealt with war crimes and crimes against humanity that were committed against thousands of innocent people.”
“While others have spent their lives enriching themselves through corruption, you have spent your life supporting the rule of law and helping the public.
You’ve never been charged with anything. You’ve never been convicted of anything.”
“As far as I can tell, you’ve never even been in trouble for anything during your long career.
But Donald Trump says you are a criminal and you should be in prison. He doesn’t say it because you did anything wrong, but because you did everything right.”
Trump wants Smith in prison because he is a threat to everything Trump stands for.
Smith fights to protect the law; Trump tries to break it.
Smith has strong values and does the right thing; Trump doesn’t believe in anything and encourages others to do the wrong thing.
Smith hates corruption; Trump enjoys it.
Smith is a real patriot; Trump is a traitor.
That’s why Trump wants to punish him.
Smith is a symbol of everything America should admire and stand for, and so Trump wants to shame him along with Jordan and the rest of his group of people who protect abusers and are enemies of the country.
